Spring Allergies? Natural Supplements for Symptom Relief

One of my favorite times of year in the Washington DC area is spring! We are lucky to be the home of the infamous cherry blossoms and they are always spectacular to see as they hug the tidal basin by the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials. There are many trees actually all over the city and you can usually sneak in a great photo in numerous spots in DC as well as in Virginia.

Living in the area at this time for most of us is a time to grab a light sweater, comfy kicks and tour all of this awesome spots. For others this marks the beginning of the dreaded allergy season. Where one blooming plant awakens and does its thing and as soon as it is finished another blooming tree or plant gears up for its showy display. While all of this is beautiful it can create havoc with some people's immune systems and histamine responses. If this is you you then you know what I am talking about:

  • Sneezing
  • Watery eyes
  • Itchy eyes
  • Itchy throat
  • Nasal congestion
  • Head fogginess

Some people experience one of two of these symptoms and others have EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. That my friend is no fun and makes spring a miserable experience.

What is one to do?

Well I have a few great tips for dealing with some of these symptoms.

Here are 4 easy tips:

1. Water - drink lots and lots of water. If you already think you get a lot of water - but you are dealing with allergy symptoms I would add in another 8-20oz of water.

2. Sugar - STOP eating it! Just stop. Yes...put the cookie down!

3. Gluten/Grains -  For some this also means taking out the breads, pastas, cereals - anything that is processed gluten/grain. This is because gluten and grains are inflammatory to your gut and there is a direct connection between your gut health and your immune system..

4. Dairy - Yep! Milk, cheese, yogurt all of these tasty creamy food delights. All of these can cause inflammation in the body.

What about supplemental support?

Yes, there are a few supplements from the company Standard Process that can help with a lot of the symptoms. My top 9 supplements to help with seasonal allergies are:

1. Allerplex - helps with mild seasonal allergy symptoms. Whole food supplement.

2. Antronex - helps with mild allergy symptoms as it will help to support the body's natural ability to remove excess histamine. Whole food supplement.

4. Drenamin - helps with mild allergy symptoms when combined with antronex or allerplex. Whole food supplement.

5. Albizia Complex - can help reduce histamine release and support the body’s immune system to naturally reduce allergy symptoms. Herbal supplement.

6. Sinus Forte - can help reduce mucous formation, runny noses, sneezing and watery eyes. Herbal supplement.

7. Fen-Gre - can help congestion to break up and get moving. Whole food supplement.

8. Andrographis Complex - strengthen body's immune system. Herbal supplement.

9. Golden Seal - great for restoring mucous membranes in the sinuses & upper respiratory tracts. Herbal supplement.

Having a few tricks to help during the spring allergy season can help with making it a lot more enjoyable. You will have more fun taking your favorite instagram photos and not as much time spent sneezing, blowing your nose and dabbing your eyes!
